La RIVA: the exclusive journey of crafting a dream floor
Imagine an engineered hardwood floor that is as unique as a work of art, yet equipped with cutting-edge technology to ensure durability and easy maintenance. This powerful combination is what makes LA RIVA the most exclusive collection from RIVA Spain.
Renowned as one of the industry’s best craftsmen, Tom Goddijn from Holland brings thirty-eight years of expertise in hand-sculpting to this collection. By employing unique reactive techniques developed in an artisanal manner, Goddijn molecularly modifies the wood to achieve a stunning array of colors, creating masterpieces that redefine elegance. Each customized color involves a meticulous multi-step process, which can include up to 10 steps. One reactive stain is applied and allowed to dry before the next is applied, ensuring the desired color is achieved.
“LA RIVA is a true piece of art – timeless, durable, and exuding a beauty that transcends the ordinary.”
Operating from RIVA Spain’s factory in Jacksonville, Florida, Goddijn crafts extraordinary products using reactive stains on European oak. This process involves applying treatments that naturally alter the wood’s color, such as using fire to darken it or bleach to lighten it. Unlike regular stains that merely cover the surface, reactive stains allow for deeper, richer tones, showcasing the wood’s inherent life and character. Tom Goddijn describes the process behind the reactive stains, stating, “Let’s say the process is 90% under control. It’s not just the stuff that you’re using, but everything is reactive. The temperature, humidity, sunlight, daylight – all these factors influence the wood’s reaction.” Embracing the natural variations in the wood, Goddijn’s use of reactive stains enhances the beauty and uniqueness of each board, ultimately adding significant value to any property or house.
RIVA Spain offers oversized planks up to 14 inches wide and 10 feet long, with 8 standard colors available and the option for custom new colors and designs. Each LA RIVA wood plank is meticulously handcrafted, making it unique. Furthermore, clients, interior designers, or architects can present a color or texture reference to Goddijn for further customization, resulting in a high-quality, one-of-a-kind floor that enhances the value of any project.
