SOLID VS ENGINEERED FLOORS: DISCOVER THE PERFECT CHOICE FOR YOUR PROJECT!

CHOOSING THE PERFECT FLOORING: SOLID OR ENGINEERED?

Whether you are renovating your current space or starting a new project from scratch, selecting the right flooring is essential to establish a foundation that will stand the test of time without losing its style. Let’s dive into the differences between solid and engineered flooring to help you understand these popular options.

SOLID HARDWOOD, A CLASSIC BEAUTY

Solid flooring, or solid wood flooring, is entirely made from genuine wood throughout its thickness, usually a robust hardwood like oak, maple, or walnut.

This type of flooring is renowned for its durability, beauty and longevity. Due to its nature, it can be sanded and refinished multiple times.

Solid wood flooring usually features long planks and narrower boards, which helps minimize the potential for cupping and offers better stability as there is less room for movement. This style also reminisces of the traditional hardwood flooring looks in older homes.

ENGINEERED HARDWOOD, THE PERFECT COMBINATION

Engineered floors are the perfect combination of natural beauty and advanced engineering techniques. They resemble their solid counterparts, but their construction features a thin top layer of hardwood, and a high-quality multilayer plywood core. The core is the key to their numerous benefits: the multi-layered construction adds integrity, ensures long-lasting performance and adds resistance to fluctuations in humidity and temperature.

FIREWOOD

The upper section of the tree is used for firewood, which may not be suitable for flooring due to higher branch density and smaller trunk size.

CHARACTER

Our character grade comes from the middle part of the tree. This part has a visual appeal and some knots but avoids the large holes of the top part. We refer to our character grade as “light character”.

SELECT

Our select grade comes from the bottom part of the tree and is the youngest wood, which results in the absence of knots and a sleek appearance.
