SUSTAINABLE FOREST

More than a billion people look to forests for food or fuel. Nearly one hundred million call those same environments home, with no less than eighty percent of the world´s amphibians, birds, and mammals. Forests are also the second largest storehouse of carbon after the oceans, meaning they help prevent and fight climate change. Roots below and canopy above prevent erosion and keep fertile soil healthy. Leaves take pollutants out of the air we breathe.

Forests sustain humanity!

Sustainable Forest Management is, essentially, when humanity strives in its own modest way to return the favor. This approach ensures forests have a positive social, environmental, and economic impact.

As the Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe puts it, “The stewardship and use of forests and forest lands in such a way, and at a rate, that maintain their biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity, vitality, and their potential to fulfill, now and in the future, relevant ecological, economic, and social functions, at local, national, and global levels, and that does not cause damage to other ecosystems.”

At RIVA, sustainability is a core value

Our flooring is manufactured in a factory certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which “ensures products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.”

In addition, RIVA’s flooring is certified zero emission, CARB2 compliant, and flame resistant. Our quality control system meets the strict standards of Bureau Veritas and the WBP glue we use is contaminate-free.

As a fourth-generation family business, RIVA recognizes our responsibility to our current customers and future generations.

With RIVA you can contribute to the sustainability of the planet we all share.

FIREWOOD

The upper section of the tree is used for firewood, which may not be suitable for flooring due to higher branch density and smaller trunk size.

CHARACTER

Our character grade comes from the middle part of the tree. This part has a visual appeal and some knots but avoids the large holes of the top part. We refer to our character grade as “light character”.

SELECT

Our select grade comes from the bottom part of the tree and is the youngest wood, which results in the absence of knots and a sleek appearance.
